The dust has settled at Donington Park after an exciting first round of the Audi R8 Championship, we come to reflect on the event and the drivers performances.
With rumours of discontent with the track selection, the organisers have decided to open a vote to the competitors on which track should replace the Norisring. The rest of the tracks include Oulton Park, Dijon-Prenois and another round up for discussion – suggestions are welcomed and should be submitted!
Unfortunately, we lost the replay of Race 1, so the only highlights on offer are the following from Race 2. Next time we will have both replays!.
Team Mate Wars
The first person you need to beat is your team-mate.
Julian Thomas: B+
Lee Cordell: C-
Two solid third place finishes for Julian despite making a mistake to lose 2nd in race 1 on the last lap. Cruelly denied the opportunity to fight for the win in Race 2 due to unfortunate circumstances (Sam). Lee was involved in the endurance race wars and finished in 9th in both, certainly not a bad result considering missing out free practice compared to his competitors.
Mark Winwood: B-
Kevin Bursnall: B
Despite scoring less points than Mark, Kevin wins the Team Mate wars for over achieving with a 5th and a 7th place. Mark narrowly missed out on the podium and two fourth place results proved frustrating.
Darren Kirk : A
Sam Newland: F
1 win, 1 fastest lap and a second place on one side of the garage, a drive through and two 10th place finishes on the other. Bandito Racing are 10 points behind Team Foxhole in the championship, and Sam’s contribution to the points haul was appreciated by the entire team, as shown in this pie chart.
Jonathan Holman: A
Dan Fox: B-
Despite under-performing in Race 1, Dan recovered in race 2 with a top 5 position. Jonathan’s win, 2nd place and overall fastest lap however seal the TMW victory for John.
Posh Stiffy Racing
Dan Cooke: C+
Stephen Dye: C+
The closest score in Team Mate Wars – with both Dan and Stephen performing well for the team making good progress through the field. Dan closely pips the award for slightly less spins, sportsmanship for waiting for Kevin after an accident and with two six place finishes, compared to Stephens 7th and 8th. Stephen did provide stiff competition for the midfield despite trying to squeeze into a few small spaces.
With just two points separating Darren (43) and Jonathan (41) at the top of the table, Julian slightly behind on 30 points and Mark on 24. The midfield battle looks exciting, with just 5 point separating 5th to 8th.[table “” not found /]
Team Foxhole stand proud at the top of the Team Championship, 10 points clear of Bandito Racing. 2 points separate Team Yob and Team Racelogic, with Posh Stiffy 11 points behind.[table “” not found /]
